ONDC Stands for Open Network for Digital Commerce. It is a private non-profit Section 8 company established by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of the Government of India to develop open e-commerce.
In India, more than 12 million sellers earn their livelihood by selling or reselling products and services. However, only 15,000 sellers (0.125% of the total) have enabled e-commerce. E‑retail has been out of reach for the majority of sellers, especially from small towns and rural areas. ONDC recognizes the unique opportunity to increase e‑retail penetration from the existing 4.3% to its maximum potential in India.
ONDC states to be Everyone’s commerce which means anyone can sell and buy from each other online.
How ONDC Works?
As per my understanding, it will open various new doors in e-commerce and will benefit both buyers and sellers as it will be a single platform for all needs.
Also, I was hearing a lot that ONDC will kill businesses like Amazon, Zomato, and other similar platforms but what I understood is it will not kill these platforms but it will provide easy access to these platforms using a central solution to connect all of them at one platform/ application so that it becomes easy for the buyer to buy anything.
Most of us in metropolitan city order using Amazon, Flipkart, Zomato, Swiggy, and many new companies that are launched for shopping, groceries, and food ordering. Let me know what are your thoughts on ONDC in the comment section.
